Makei describes cooperation of EaP, V4 countries in transport as important

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei took part in a meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Visegrad Group (V4: Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Czechia) and the European Union’s Eastern Partnership (EaP) Initiative participating states in Warsaw, Poland, on 12 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his speech at the plenary meeting Vladimir Makei emphasized the importance of closer cooperation between the Eastern Partnership Initiative participants and the Visegrad Group members in the transport industry, including through the realization of the idea of compatibility in the EaP region and the organization of thematic events in this field. He also deemed it necessary to attract resources of international financial institutions for the implementation of promising infrastructure projects in the region.

Heads of the delegations discussed the forthcoming EaP summit in Brussels in November 2017 and the situation in the region.

Vladimir Makei had a number of bilateral meetings. The talks with Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, focused on the current state and development prospects of the Belarus-EU dialogue. The meetings with Davor Ivo Stier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, and Teodor Viorel Melescanu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, focused on the enhancement of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade and economy, the relations of Belarus and the European Union.

The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs discussed the prospects to develop bilateral political dialogue, including the preparations for the top-level negotiations, with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin. They also discussed topical issues in the regulation of the situation in eastern Ukraine.
