Lukashenko stresses importance of packaging technologies in agriculture

Lukashenko stresses importance of packaging technologies in agriculture

SMOLEVICHI DISTRICT, 24 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized the importance of producing balers and baler film and the need to ensure affordable pricing for agricultural equipment as he made a working trip to Smolevichi District, BelTA has learned.

While visiting the Ozeritsky-Agro agricultural enterprise, the president addressed the importance of proper technology for silage storage. Due to weather conditions, storing hay in trenches may not always be feasible. To preserve feed for the off-season, hay is wrapped in film using balers. Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that even in this case, it is crucial to ensure proper packaging.

He noted that this practice is widely used in both Western countries and Belarus. “We need to use balers and film,” the president stressed. “It is very important.”

The head of state inquired how First Deputy Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Vasily Sysoyev evaluates domestic balers, including in comparison with foreign models. According to Vasily Sysoyev, Belarusian farms use balers produced by enterprises of Borisov District, and they perform quite well.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that such technologies should not be overlooked. He noted that the pricing issue also requires attention and tasked Minsk Oblast Governor Aleksei Kushnarenko with addressing it. “Everyone is trying to sell balers and film at a higher price... Yet, producing film seems like a simple task,” the Belarusian leader remarked.

“We need balers,” the president said. “As a former [farm] head, I’d be desperate to buy two balers. No matter the cost of the film, I’d always buy it and get hay wrapped.”

The president also touched on the topic of robotic milking systems for farms, noting that such technologies can help address staffing challenges to some extent.

The head of state had previously raised the issue of manufacturing domestic balers for silage and milking robots that would match the quality of foreign counterparts. These topics were discussed at a recent seminar-meeting in Minsk District, where Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “We must produce balers. It’s a matter of life and death.”
