Lukashenko stresses critical role of grain-drying complexes for harvest campaign

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) – Stopping a grain-drying complex is equal to stopping the entire harvest cycle, causing mass spoilage of the crop and lowering its quality, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a nationwide video conference to discuss the 2026 harvest campaign, BelTA has learned.

“The key condition for successful work this year is the reliability of the grain-drying facilities. Large volumes of grain will have to pass through the dryers, at least once, to avoid losses. Therefore, all grain-handling sites and grain-dryers must be fully operational,” the president instructed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that at present the readiness of grain-drying complexes is at 97%. According to the government, the existing 1,660 grain-drying complexes will allow full processing of the daily volume of grain. “The government thinks so, but in reality it is not the case. Flying over the east and center of Belarus, I saw a considerable amount of grain lying in piles at grain-handling sites,” the Belarusian leader said.

“I hope you clearly understand that stopping a grain-drying complex is equal to stopping the entire harvest cycle, causing mass spoilage of the crop, and a reduction in its grade,” the head of state emphasized.

The president stated that inspectors found cases of grain-drying complexes being unprepared in every fifth farm. Just last week, 49 complexes were not working, including 16 in Vitebsk Oblast and 13 in Gomel Oblast.
