Lukashenko promised domestic quail breed in 3.5 years

Lukashenko promised domestic quail breed in 3.5 years

SOLIGORSK DISTRICT, 3 October (BelTA) – While visiting Soligorsk Poultry Farm, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was briefed on plans to establish a quail breeding and genetics center, BelTA has learned.

The head of state inquired when Belarus would develop its own domestic quail, given that the country’s poultry industry currently relies on importing day-old chicks from both grandparent and parent stock.

“We will have our own quail in three and a half years. This isn't a quick process; it takes five years to develop our own crossbreed. We've already established the gene pool. We have the foundation and the base to work on. This is real, tangible work,” said Inna Tolkacheva, Director of Soligorsk Poultry Farm.

Aleksandr Lukashenko then sought confirmation from Vladimir Karanik, head of the National Academy of Sciences, who replied, “There is a very good chance of that happening with quail. The chances that the breed will be competitive are very high.”

Regarding the Soligorsk Poultry Farm in general, the head of state did not request a detailed report on the enterprise's operations, noting that he already had all the necessary materials on that matter. “Just tell me, do you have the money?” he asked Inna Tolkacheva. Upon receiving an affirmative answer, he said: “Then I need nothing more. Since you have money, it is a great job.”

The president was briefed that a plan was in place to ensure further development of the poultry farm in the coming years.
