Lukashenko demands to stop import of vehicle repair parts

Lukashenko demands to stop import of vehicle repair parts

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave an instruction to launch the production of necessary vehicle repair parts and accessories at Belarusian enterprises. He made the statement at the session to discuss the development of the flax industry and flax processing in Orsha on 30 November, BelTA has learned.

“No import please. Belarus has an advanced machine-building industry. We are making complex machines. Find out what, for example, the linen mill needs. You can even organize import substitution in Orsha. Everything should be done in Belarus. Otherwise, these products will be imported,” the president said. “They import things because of certain kick-back schemes. A so-called ‘rake-off’ is 8-15%. I have been recently informed that several dozens of senior managers were involved in such shady import schemes, dealership, and so on and so forth. We will not make hasty decisions. But certain people have been caught red handed.”

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that Belarusian enterprises can produce certain repair parts to replace imported ones. “Gomselmash is underperforming, MTZ can produce them too. The import of vehicle repair parts and accessories must be stopped,” the Belarusian leader warned.

“This problem exists at other enterprises. We can make repair parts for seeding machines, winnowing machines, pressing machines, etc.,” the president said.

The head of state also instructed garment manufacturers to use more Belarusian-made fabrics. “All fabrics are from modernized enterprises. Analyze markets. Use smart approaches, but local garment manufacturers should also use Belarusian-made fabrics. This is a very important issue. Otherwise, our efforts will not make sense,” he stressed.
