Lukashenko: Belarus, Ukraine can balance bilateral trade

Lukashenko: Belarus, Ukraine can balance bilateral trade

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Ukraine can balance the bilateral trade if there is a mutual desire, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with representatives of the Ukrainian mass media in Minsk on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

The deficit for Ukraine is largely due to the supply of oil products, the head of state noted. “We have some value added from this, because we make petroleum products from expensive oil. We actually pay a lot for oil. This is why we do not gain anything here," Aleksandr Lukashenko explained.

“Should we reduce the supply of petroleum products? On the contrary, you ask us to increase it. But this is not the main thing. Should there be a desire, we can slowly reduce this deficit and balance the trade. We have a lot of interest in you, in many areas,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the Belarusian side offered Ukraine even a project in rocket-building. “That was a very profitable project for you. The president [Peter Poroshenko] agreed and promised to work in this direction. But there is still no work. Meanwhile, this project can yield billions” the head of state said. "There were a lot of such projects. Were they launched, the deficit would be less,” he added.

“We have a lot of peaceful projects such as the road along the Pripyat and the Dnieper. This cooperation could have created a great synergy impact,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
