Kushnarenko: ‘High interest from Russian colleagues’ in Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – The 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is a significant step toward strengthening inter-regional cooperation, and currently there is a very high interest from Russian colleagues in contacts and meetings, including from the business community, Minsk Oblast Governor Aleksei Kushnarenko said at a meeting of the forum’s working group, BelTA has learned.
Minsk Oblast will be hosting the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, which will take place on 25-26 June. The forum provides an opportunity to showcase the economic potential, hospitality and cultural identity of Minsk Oblast and the country as a whole.
As Minsk Oblast Governor Aleksei Kushnarenko noted, preparations for the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia are now nearing completion. “The Minsk Oblast administration has joined efforts with the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and the Minsk municipal administration to make sure Belarus will give a worthy welcome to the participants and guests of this large-scale event. Ten sections on various areas of cooperation have been identified, nine of which will take place on the territory of Minsk Oblast,” the governor said.
The venues for the thematic sections will include flagship enterprises, organizations and social facilities – BelAZ, BelGee, the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone, Agrokombinat Dzerzhinsky, the National Clinical Medical Center, Nesvizh Castle, and others. In addition, an expert session will be held in Minsk District at the Yunost sanatorium; a joint meeting of the governing bodies of the youth structures of the Council of the Republic and the Federation Council will take place at Secondary School No. 2 in the village of Kopishche; and the first meeting of the newly established Union State Committee on Standardization and Quality will be held in Molodechno.
“We are seeing very high demand from our Russian colleagues for contacts and meetings, including from the business community, which reflects the growing strength of our relations. Through the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee alone, negotiations are planned with representatives of Moscow, Oryol, Kaliningrad and Omsk Oblasts, as well as Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area. And this list continues to expand,” Aleksei Kushnarenko emphasized.
To date, around 20 enterprises of Minsk Oblast plan to sign commercial contracts with Russian partners for a total exceeding RUB34 million. “And we believe that this figure will likely be higher,” the governor remarked.
Minsk Oblast will be showcased not only as a region with high economic potential but also as a tourist destination, including through visits to a number of tourist sites. Specially for the event, the book Hospitable Minsk Oblast has been reissued, which features all the landmark sites that are the pride of the Oblast. Over a hundred volunteers will be deployed to assist in organizing the events of the forum.
“I am confident that the upcoming forum will allow us to take a significant step toward strengthening inter-regional cooperation,” Aleksei Kushnarenko stressed.
As previously reported, the thematic sections will be held on 25 June in various districts of Minsk Oblast. Before their start, forum participants will lay flowers at sites commemorating the events and heroes of the Great Patriotic War. On 26 June, the main venue for the events will be the Minsk International Exhibition Center BelExpo. A trade fair will be set up there, where leading enterprises from all regions of the country will present their products. Manufacturers from Russian regions are also expected to participate in the fair.
Forum participants will enjoy a rich cultural program. Its central event will be a concert at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater. On the nights of 25 and 26 June during the forum, a light projection featuring the logo of the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will be displayed on the building of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee.
