MOGILEV, 30 October (BelTA) – Israel is interested in cooperation with Mogilev Oblast in information technologies, power engineering, and tourism. These topics dominated the latest meeting of Mogilev Oblast Governor Vladimir Domanevsky and Ambassador of Israel to Belarus Alon Shoham, BelTA has learned.

According to Alon Shoham, upon getting familiar with Mogilev Oblast’s capabilities, he saw rather good prospects for advancing entrepreneurship and cooperation in information technologies. “There are quite many qualified specialists in the region, who could work in this area, implementing and advancing the development of the business projects already going on in Israel,” he believes.

According to the ambassador, energy saving is another avenue of cooperation, which is important for Mogilev Oblast and Belarus as a whole. “Just like Belarus Israel lacks raw materials of its own — oil and natural gas. This is why all kinds of energy-saving projects and systems are vigorously deployed and alternative sources of energy are used. Cooperation in this sphere could be beneficial for both sides,” believes the diplomat.

He also sees great prospects in the development of tourism. “Belarus has beautiful nature, a favorable climate, and hospitable people. It attracts our citizens. There are also many places and memorials in Belarus, which are connected to the history and culture of the Jewish people. They are interesting to study,” said Alon Shoham.

In turn, Vladimir Domanevsky drew the ambassador's attention to prospects of advancing cooperation in investments and to the existing preferences for private companies in Mogilev Oblast and the free economic zone (FEZ) Mogilev. He suggested taking a closer look at opportunities for setting up joint ventures in Mogilev Oblast with a view to making medications, drinking water and mineral water. The processing of agricultural products and the manufacturing of kosher meat were mentioned as possibilities.

Vladimir Domanevsky and Alon Shoham also discussed prospects and possible growth points with regard to cooperation in education, healthcare, and culture.

The ambassador was made familiar with the operation of the technology park Mogilev, capabilities in FEZ Mogilev, and visited the Mogilev City History Museum. The ambassador intends to get familiar with the work of the lift manufacturer Mogilevliftmash on 31 October. Alon Shoham intends to meet with top officials of the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy in Gorki.
