MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – After meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ashok Kumar talked to reporters about what goods and products are of particular interest, BelTA has learned.
Ashok Kumar described the meeting with the Belarusian head of state as exceedingly productive. “We’ve discussed virtually all the spheres of bilateral interaction that are of mutual interest. Certainly, we prioritized trade and economic cooperation between our countries. We recognize that there is big potential in this field and we are going to discuss it during the next session of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation,” the diplomat noted.
As concrete promising spheres the ambassador mentioned export shipments of BelAZ haul trucks to India, interaction in pharmaceutics and the production of medications, the organization of joint projects to make dairy products. “We believe that Belarus has very good potential. At the same time India offers a vast market to Belarus. This is why we invite Belarusian companies to come to our market as actively as possible, including by investing in joint projects,” Ashok Kumar said.
In his words, shipments of Belarusian woodworking products to India also look interesting. “It is very interesting for us. We know that Belarus has plenty of timber and makes excellent furniture. Not so long ago the Vitebsk Oblast governor and I talked about prospects of shipping Belarusian timber and goods made thereof to India,” the diplomat informed.

Apart from that, the ambassador mentioned India’s interest in stepping up shipments of agricultural machines and equipment from Belarus. “We could work in this field. India is a very large market. I would like to invite Belarusian companies to more actively work together with Indian partners in this sphere,” he said.
Belarus-India trade and economic cooperation has been showing positive dynamics for Belarus for the last few years. In 2024 Belarus-India trade was close to $500 million, 14% up from 2023. However, the balance of trade did not favor Belarus: import from India exceeded export to India by over $64 million.
In January-September 2025 Belarus-India merchandise trade exceeded $605 million, nearly 74% up from January-September 2024. Meanwhile, Belarus’ export rose by 2.7 times to $415 million, securing a foreign trade surplus.

The volume of trade in services is also rising. In 2024 it increased by 2.6 times in comparison with 2023, approaching $125 million. In January-September 2025 trade in services rose by 12% in comparison with January-September 2024 to nearly $90 million.
