German company to drill shafts for second Belarusian potash mining factory

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – The German company Deilmann-Haniel GmbH will take care of shaft work as part of the construction of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory. The relevant trilateral contract was signed by the companies Slavkaliy (Belarus), Deilmann-Haniel (Germany), and China State Energy Engineering Corporation in Minsk on 7 July, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of Slavkaliy’s Board of Directors Mikhail Gutseriyev, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Kalinin, and Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky were present during the signing ceremony.

Deilmann-Haniel GmbH is one of the world’s leading providers of tunneling services and civil engineering services for mining enterprises. Over the course of 130 years the company has built over 500 shafts. China State Energy Engineering Corporation will take care of supplying energy to the construction site.

The German company Herrenknecht AG will also take part in the project. The company will have to develop shaft-sinking machines SBR. These machines have been used only once so far at a potash deposit in Canada. Deilmann-Haniel and Herrenknecht signed the contract for the delivery of these machines in Minsk on 7 July.

Slavkaliy’s CEO Igor Kozhich explained that as part of the tunneling process it is possible to pass 1.5m per day using the drill and blast tunneling method. A mechanized technology will be used at the construction site of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory to pass at least 3m per day. According to Igor Kozhich, construction work is on schedule.

BelTA reported earlier that, based at the Starobinskoye potash salt deposit in Lyuban District, Minsk Oblast, the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory will become the country’s second enterprise to extract potassium ore and produce potash fertilizers (up to 2 million tonnes of potassium per annum). As part of the investment project one mining facility will be built in addition to a processing plant, a gas turbine power plant for proprietary needs, railway infrastructure, motorways, housing infrastructure, and other kinds. The construction of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory began in 2016. IOOO Slavkaliy is in charge of implementing the project.
