Finland ready to increase investment in Belarusian economy

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – Finland is ready to step up its investment in the development of the Belarusian economy, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkanen said as he met with Belarus’ First Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Matyushevsky on 13 April, BelTA has learned.

“We are ready to not only sell our technologies, but also invest in the development of the Belarusian economy and creation of new jobs,” Kai Mykkanen noted.

A number of Finnish companies already successfully operate in Belarus. Kesko is one of them. The company invests in the development of the OMA retail chain, and is now ready to increase investment, Kai Mykkanen pointed out.

The minister emphasized that Belarus is steadily improving its position in the Doing Business ranking. This is one of the factors that encourage Finnish companies to explore the Belarusian market.

Kai Mykkanen believes that power engineering is a promising area of bilateral cooperation. “I hope that today’s meeting will help us find opportunities for beneficial collaboration,” the minister added.

Kai Mykkanen is visiting Belarus on 12 and 13 April. This is the first visit of a Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland in the history of the Belarus-Finland relations.
