Europe-China transport corridor strategy suggested

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – A strategy of a sustainable multimodal transport corridor from Europe to China was suggested by Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich at the UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference in Ashgabat on 26-27 November, BelTA learned from the Embassy of Belarus in Turkmenistan.

At the plenary session Mikhail Myasnikovich suggested a complex development strategy for a sustainable multimodal transport corridor from Europe to China. Its main principle is in the alignment of two biggest projects: the Eurasian Economic Union and the Great Silk Economic Belt.

During the conference the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus held a number of bilateral meetings with heads of delegations of the participating countries and international organizations. Thus, at the meeting with Georgia President Giorgi Margvelashvili the parties exchanged opinions on the implementation of joint projects in the development of the agreements reached during the visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Georgia. Mikhail Myasnikovich and SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov discussed issues related to Belarus’ participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Turkmenistan Oleg Tabanyukhov were received by Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. The parties had a constructive dialogue and discussed issues related to the strategic partnership of Belarus and Turkmenistan in numerous areas of cooperation. The parties also talked over the Garlyk mining and processing factory which construction is almost complete.

Mikhail Myasnikovich also discussed the construction of the factory at the meeting with members of the Turkmenistan Cabinet of Ministers. Other issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed as well.

Mikhail Myasnikovich also met with Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Majlis Akja Nurberdiyewa.
