Estonians interested in Belarus’ industrial tourism

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ industrial tourism is of special interest to Estonians, Oliver Mangus, head of the Estonian diaspora in Belarus, told journalists at a press conference on cultural cooperation of the two countries in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“Estonians who come to Belarus are first of all interested in industrial tourism. We visit such plants as Neman Glassworks, Belarusian tractor maker MTZ, BelAZ. I should mention that every year more and more Estonians visit Belarus,” Oliver Mangus said.

This year, the Estonian embassy in Belarus intends to show popular Estonian films in the Pioner cinema during the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019, open a photo exhibition of Estonia’s ex-president Lennart Meri in autumn. “We also would like to reopen the exposition about Russian old believers and their sacred places which ran in Minsk several years ago and was very popular. Other plans include a photo exhibition of Alexander Ivashkevich about famous figures in Estonian culture in autumn or in the end of the year,” Vivian Saarpere, representative of the Estonian Embassy, said. “Our filmmakers also intend to take part in the Minsk International Film Festival Listapad. Several Estonian films will even enter the competition,” she added.

The Belarusian publisher and art-manager Alla Zmiyeva noted that cooperation with Estonian artists began five years ago. Recently, the Museum of Minsk History hosted several Estonian expositions. “We know Estonia as a country of vanguard art and we want to put Belarusian artists on display there. In 2019, we will show a project dedicated to the 500 years of Belarusian book printing in Estonia. And we would also like to display in Minsk works of Katya Novichkova, an Estonian artist and philosopher who explores the influence of the digital society on people,” she said.

Bilateral cooperation in theater art also develops. Margarita Levchuk, a soloist of Belarus’ National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater, will play Juliet in the opera Montagues and Capulets in the Estonian city of Parnu.
