China interested in Belarusian agricultural products

MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – China is interested in supplies of Belarusian agricultural products, Vice President of COFCO Corporation, Chairman of the Board and President of Chinatex Corporation Luan Richeng said as he met with Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats, BelTA has learned.

“We appreciate the quality of ecologically pure Belarusian products. They are very competitive. We see great prospects for the development of the agricultural sector and our cooperation,” Luan Richeng said.

During the meeting, the parties discussed several cooperation areas. The organization of supplies of Belarusian dairy products, poultry meat and beef to China was one of them. The sides also considered ways to strengthen the cooperation in logistics. As many as 34 Belarusian companies have already obtained certificates for exports to the Chinese market.

Leonid Zayats and Luan Richeng noted that Belarus’ agricultural sector has good export and investment prospects. Agricultural products account for 16% of the national GDP. The share of agricultural produce in total exports is around 17%. The major exports are meat and dairy products. Belarus is third in the world in terms of the export of butter and whey and fifth in terms of the export of cheese, cottage cheese and skimmed milk.

COFCO is one of the largest food processing corporations in the world. The company is focused on the production of cereal and oil crops, and tomatoes. COFCO has 336 subsidiaries and representative offices in 140 countries. It operates 180 enterprises and over two million retail outlets. The company’s assets are estimated at $72 billion. Every year, COFCO tops the ranking of 100 China’s biggest food companies.
