Call for more effort to develop new Belarus-Russia Union healthcare program

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia plan to foster the development of a new Union State program in healthcare, Director of the National Center of Children's Oncology, Hematology and Immunology Olga Aleinikova said at the session of the joint board of the Belarusian and Russian healthcare ministries, BelTA has learned.

The draft concept has been already developed and agreed with a number of Russian and Belarusian institutions. According to Olga Aleinikova, steps should now be taken to advance this work.

According to the latest version, the program is titled as "Development of personalized technologies for patient rehabilitation from cancer diseases treatment at an early age." The program based on the treatment results will be aimed at mitigating short- and long-term effects of the therapy and introducing less damaging methods of treatment and organ preservation techniques, atypical resections and so on.

Olga Aleinikova noted that over 70% of children and teenagers recover from cancer. It is important to analyze which short- and long-term effects this therapy has. As a result, it is necessary to develop a system of measures to reduce or even prevent adverse health effect on patients’ health. This work should be conducted within a Union State program as children oncology specialists from Belarus and Russia have a lot of experience in cooperation.
