Brest Oblast, Russia’s Pskov Oblast to cooperate in agriculture

BREST, 29 June (BelTA) – Pskov Oblast is interested in long-term cooperation with Brest Oblast in agriculture. The statement was made by Sergei Pernikov, Russia’s Pskov Oblast Vice Governor, during the meeting with representatives of the Brest Oblast administration on 29 June, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Pernikov said: “Belarusian agriculture is rather advanced. A lot of quality products of animal husbandry and crop husbandry are made that sell well not only on the domestic market but also outside Belarus and Russia. Our enterprises are interested in working together.”

While in Brest Oblast representatives of the Pskov Oblast administration intend to hold negotiations with representatives of the enterprises that make and supply pedigree livestock and poultry. The guests are also interested in the experience of Brest Oblast processing enterprises. According to First Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Nikolai Tokar, the share of agriculture in the oblast’s Gross Regional Product stands at 14.3%. Brest Oblast exports two thirds of the milk and meat it makes.

The sides also discussed prospects of regional cooperation in civil engineering. The work of Belarusian specialists on projects in Pskov Oblast and the delivery of construction materials to the Russian region were discussed.

Apart from that, members of the Pskov Oblast delegation were made familiar with the operation of the free economic zone Brest. A special economic zone Moglino operates in Russia’s northwest, too. The establishment of the infrastructure is being finished over there. The Pskov Oblast Vice Governor said that the successful experience of the Brest investment platform can be applied in the Russian economic zone, too. The Russian representatives intend to invite Belarusian enterprises to cooperation. Negotiations with a number of manufacturers have been scheduled, including with OAO Mogilevliftmash.

Plans have been made to sign an agreement on long-term cooperation between Brest Oblast and Russia’s Pskov Oblast.

On 29 June the Pskov Oblast delegation visited OAO Savushkin Product, SOOO Bonshe, and the dairy factory in Bereza.
