BREST, 21 April (BelTA) – The international forum and expo of business contacts Brest 2016 will help attract foreign investment to Belarus’ Brest Oblast, Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Mikhail Serkov said at the opening of the event on 21 April, BelTA has learned.

“The forum will help attract investment to Belarus, specifically to Brest Oblast. It is aimed at finding foreign partners for our companies. We have been working closely with potential investors for several days. We have discussed 20 projects, five of them are of particular importance to the region,” Mikhail Serkov noted.

Partaking in the forum are around 100 exhibitors from Brest Oblast and regions of foreign countries. Companies and enterprises showcase products and services to potential partners. The expo features a number of sections, including agriculture, processing industry, machine-building, and tourism. Special attention is paid to small businesses, support for entrepreneurs, and start-up projects.

“The expo is held as part of the forum. It provides a wonderful platform for holding negotiations, displaying products, sharing ideas, and making strategic decisions. Today western companies seek closer cooperation with Belarus, including Brest Oblast. The strong interest to the expo from Polish entrepreneurs attests to this. More than 50 businessmen from different parts of Poland have come to participate in the forum,” General Director of the Brest Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Valery Labun said.

He added that foreign businessmen show interest in setting up subsidiaries of their companies or joint ventures in Brest Oblast.

Attending the forum and expo of business contacts Brest 2016 are representatives of 35 countries. On 21 April, Brest hosted a business matchmaking session held as part of the forum.
