Belavia plans to launch charter flight to Canary Islands in summer 2016

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian air carrier Belavia has plans to launch a charter flight to the Canary Islands, Belavia General Director Anatoly Gusarov told a press conference on the occasion of the Day of Civil Aviation Workers on 28 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have plans to open a charter flight to Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, in summer next year. We considered the possibility of launching the flight during the winter period, but, unfortunately, the situation is that we cannot do this due to some commercial reasons,” Anatoly Gusarov said.

He gave his assessment of the company's activities and noted that Belavia has much to do to improve its work. “However, we believe that Belavia has successfully gone through the period of turbulence in the CIS. We have managed to ensure stable employment and maintain the safety and frequency of flights. We see that some of our clients complain about the cost of flights and the meals on board. We are currently working on these issues,” Anatoly Gusarov stressed.

Belavia is Belarus' biggest air carrier, including in cargo transportation. In late January 2014 it acquired a juridical status of an open joint stock company. Belavia operates 27 aircraft. It offers regular flights to 46 destinations in 28 countries of Europe, Asia and the CIS. In 1997 Belavia joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA), in 2010 – the European Regions Airline Association (ERAA). In January-September 2015, the company’s passenger traffic went up by 4% from the same period last year.
