Belarusian technology park Belbiograd to open in 2017

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – The national R&D park Belbiograd will start working in Belarus in 2017, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov on 22 November.

According to the source, the park is now in the registration and establishment phase. It is supposed to start working in 2017.

The center of the park will be located Minsk’s housing estate Uruchye. The premises are now available. The administration of the park and the package of the first few projects are being formed.

The Belarusian Economy Ministry came forth with the idea to set up the national R&D park Belbiograd in 2011. A government conference was held in October 2013 to put the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in charge of further work on establishing Belbiograd.

The technology park Belbiograd will primarily focus on developing science-intensive branches of the national economy, which are related to microbiology, nanomaterials, and nanotechnologies. “We will begin with bio and nanotechnologies. The relevant projects are already available. Many institutes are ready to work and are presenting their R&D products,” said Vladimir Gusakov.

The official went on saying that foreign investors had stated they are ready to take part in the project. “We are now working on raising investments to set up manufacturing facilities. For instance, Chinese colleagues are interested in investing in pharmaceutical production. Russian investors demonstrate their interest, too,” added the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The establishment of the technology park Belbiograd is supposed to give a powerful impulse to the dynamic development of the high-tech sector of the national economy through reliance on the potential of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and on foreign R&D products.
