BAKU, 27 December (BelTA – Azertac) - Plans are in place to open a Belarusian store in the Azerbaijan city of Nakhchivan, Belarus Ambassador to Azerbaijan Gennady Akhramovich told a press conference.

The network of Belarusian stores is expanding, Gennady Akhramovich said. There are six stores in Baku. More stores are to open in Nakhichevan, Ganja and Mingachevir soon.

Speaking about cooperation in heavy engineering, the ambassador recalled Ganja Automobile Plant which produced the 10,000th tractor in April this year. The products of the plant are already on sale in the markets of third countries. In addition, the parties have launched a project to open an assembly shop of Ganja Automobile Plant in Turkey.

Gennady Akhramovich said that Azerbaijan is going to set up a shop to bottle Azerbaijani brandy and wines in Belarus to be sold domestically and in the neighboring countries.

Belarus and Azerbaijan are negotiating the increase in flight frequency. The ambassador reported that Belarus is planning to use Azerbaijani aircrafts for international flights, for example, Minsk-New York. Plans are in place to increase cargo turnover by air on Baku routes. In turn, Azerbaijan may be interested in Belarus as a transit country participating in several transport projects.

Gennady Akhramovich highlighted that Azerbaijan and Belarus actively supported each other on the international arena in 2018. “We are grateful to Azerbaijan for its friendly support and understanding, which is extremely important for Belarus,” the ambassador said.

In 2018, the countries exchanged about 30 high-level bilateral visits. The diplomat emphasized the importance of the visit of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to Belarus and the meetings between Alexander Lukashenko and Ilham Aliyev. During the visit, the two countries signed about ten documents defining the areas of bilateral interaction.
