Belarusian scientists design hybrid module for trucks

MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarusian scientists have developed a hybrid module for trucks, Sergei Poddubko, Director General of the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences told a press conference on 19 September.

“The development of motor controllers in their pure form is hampered by high battery costs. There are, however, transitional versions of vehicles – the hybrid ones. They combine an internal combustion engine and a motor controller. Hybrid vehicles are developing rapidly throughout the world. Our institute is also moving forward in this direction. We have designed a hybrid module that can be installed in a truck, for instance. We are ready to implement this technology,” Sergei Poddubko noted.

In his words, hybrid vehicles boast essential advantages. “Hybrid vehicles do not require infrastructure: they have an on-board battery charger. Their battery’s capacity is much smaller because it serves as a buffer consuming power from regenerative braking. A hybrid vehicle also saves up from 20 to 30% of fuel,” the director general added.
