MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – Belarusian oil refineries supply sufficient amounts of fuel to satisfy the domestic demand, the press service of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim told BelTA in response to reports about restrictions on fuel sales at some refueling stations.

The source said: “It is unclear why they have introduced these restrictions. Because our oil refineries produce enough fuel to satisfy the domestic demand. Products are even exported. Saying the market is experiencing a shortage is more of a provocation than some attempt to take care of consumers.”

Belneftekhim believes that the reports about restrictions on sales look like provocations, an attempt to encourage panic buying. Moreover, the reports do not even mention an entire refueling station chain. Respectively some unresolved logistics issues may be to blame.

Belneftekhim stressed that the introduction of sale restrictions at the refueling stations is a unilateral decision made by the commercial entities. Neither the government nor the regulatory authority has made decisions like that.

“If no more oil products are being delivered from Belarusian oil refineries to these commercial entities [daughter enterprises of Russian oil companies], what do they offer now? This is why it is odd to hear such reports,” Belneftekhim concluded.
