Belarusian confectionery export nearly 50% up in January-February

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – In January-February 2018 enterprises of the Belarusian state food industry concern Belgospishcheprom increased their export by 49.2% in comparison with the same period of last year, BelTA learned from Yelena Malinovskaya, Head of the Office for Coordinating Domestic and Foreign Sales of the Belgospishcheprom concern.

According to the source, foreign demand for Belarusian confectionery is on the rise. In 2017 confectionery export totaled $44 million, with the export growth rate at 154.3% as against 2016. Belgospishcheprom confectionery enterprises continue increasing their export volumes. In January-February 2018 their export increased by 49.2% in comparison with the same period of last year to $7.8 million.

The export increase is attributed to the retooling of manufacturing facilities and the balanced and coordinated policy of commercial and foreign economic divisions of the enterprises. The Belarusian confectionery producer Kommunarka is among the industry’s leaders. In 2017 Kommunarka Company increased its export shipments by 130%.

Belarusian confectionery is shipped to all the CIS states, to the USA, Canada, China, and some European countries. The demand is traditionally strongest in the Russian Federation.

In January-February 2018 Belgospishcheprom’s overall export growth rate totaled 102.3%. The top exports included products made by the sugar industry, the tobacco industry, and the confectionery industry
