Belarusian agriculture turning towards green technologies

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarusian agriculture is going to adopt more and more green technologies, preferring natural, organic production processes. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he visited the Military Academy on 22 February, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko mentioned as an example: “We are going to turn agriculture towards green technologies more and more because organic potato is the most expensive kind of potato.”

In response to a question from those present Alexander Lukashenko also talked about the farmland plot near his residence. “You exaggerate when you say I pay too much attention to my farmland plot. It doesn’t mean I go there every day. When haymaking starts, then after waking up early at five o’clock in the morning, I go and cut grass until six or seven in the morning. But it is a habit of my childhood. Haymaking is the hardest kind of labor [in the countryside]. Maybe it is a trait of my character. There are many village people but not everyone loves land and animals that much,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that milk from several cows from his farmstead is even sold. The head of state only warned against a high selling price. Some of the harvested crops are given for free to orphanages and a home for elderly people.

The head of state noted that his farmland is also an experimental site where he personally evaluates results achieved by scientists as they try to grow new crop varieties or improve existing ones.
