Belarus, Uzbekistan discuss cooperation in banking sector

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) - Belarus sees additional opportunities for developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Uzbekistan in the banking sector, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Roman Golovchenko said during a meeting with a delegation from Uzbekistan led by First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ilkhom Norkulov in Minsk on 14 October, BelTA has learned.

“We are always happy to see our friends from Uzbekistan, because every meeting is beneficial and brings us a step closer to achieving our common goals - the development and prosperity of our states and peoples. We see that the interaction has intensified at all levels and the economic, political, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation has gained momentum. The banking system is also keeping pace with the general trend. We are actively working to ensure the main objective," Roman Golovchenko said.

The parties discussed the current state of cooperation between the banks of the two countries and opportunities for its further expansion. Various forms of financing were considered, including support for the export activities of business entities, the services of leasing organizations, and the prospects for implementing joint projects.

“Banks are actively working together and assisting their clients. In the modern economy, it is difficult to manage without utilizing banking instruments to finance deliveries. Various channels are being used,” Roman Golovchenko noted adding that he sees additional opportunities for increasing both Belarusian exports to Uzbekistan and Uzbek exports to Belarus.

The head of the National Bank identified production and technological cooperation as one of the key areas for sustainable economic collaboration. Particular attention was paid to ramping up the supplies of agricultural machinery and equipment. “Given Uzbekistan's vast economic potential and the intensive growth of its agricultural production, there is significant potential for joint work here," Roman Golovchenko said.

Ilkhom Norkulov noted that relations between the two countries have traditionally developed in a spirit of mutual respect, trust, and strategic partnership. “Thanks to the personal, warm, and trusting relationship between the two leaders, Uzbek-Belarusian cooperation has reached a qualitatively new level, encompassing a wide range of areas: from trade and industrial cooperation to agriculture, education, and humanitarian exchanges. The economy of Uzbekistan, as in previous years, is growing at a steady pace. All the fundamental foundations are in place for developing trade relations with Belarus,” Ilkhom Norkulov said.He also welcomed the effective cooperation in the banking sector. The current visit, which is organized to follow up on previously reached agreements, is aimed at resolving current issues on the bilateral agenda.
