Belarus, Ukraine to discuss river navigation at regional forum

GOMEL, 23 October (BelTA) – River navigation between Belarus and Ukraine will be discussed at a panel discussion during the 1st Forum of Regions in Gomel on 25-26 October, first deputy chairperson of the architecture and construction committee of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Olga Kuznetsova told the media on 23 October, BelTA has learned.

The panel discussion which will be attended by representatives of ministries and departments, businessmen of the two countries, will highlight investment projects for the construction of a river port and port infrastructure near the village of Nizhniye Zhary, Bragin District. “The Bragin District Executive Committee selected three land plots for the implementation of projects to construct a multi-modal hub and pier for a yacht club with a recreation center, a river port and its infrastructure in the village of Nizhniye Zhary, and infrastructure of a deep-water port on the Dnieper in the village of Verkhniye Zhary,” said Olga Kuznetsova.

The implementation of investment projects will help Belarus find new opportunities for export-import deliveries, improve cargo transportation logistics, attract additional currency receipts, create new jobs and promote the competitive ability of products of Belarusian companies on foreign markets.

According to Olga Kuznetsova, the idea to develop a new transport corridor for cargo transportation from Belarus along the Dnieper to the ports of the Black, Mediterranean and Caspian Seas with the construction of a port terminal in Nizhniye Zhary was considered at different levels. “The issue was discussed between the presidents of Belarus and Ukraine in 2017,” Olga Kuznetsova added.
