Belarus, Turkmenistan to set up joint venture to make cotton products

ASHGABAT, 26 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Turkmenistan plan to set up a joint venture to make cotton products, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich after meeting with Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat on 26 March.

“We are working on establishing a joint venture that will make cotton products. The decision will be made very soon,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich. In his opinion, the new project will greatly step up integration and manufacturing cooperation. The products will be made in Belarus to be sold in Belarus, Turkmenistan and other markets.

During the meeting with the Turkmenistan president the sides also talked about progress in building the Garlyk mining and processing factory. “It is a unique project that embodies the best technologies, state-of-the-art ones in the processing industry,” noted Mikhail Myasnikovich. “Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said he believes that the factory will not be just another enterprise to mine ore and make mineral fertilizers. There are plans to set up additional factories to make products based on potash salts.”

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, during the meeting with the Turkmenistan president they agreed on new deliveries of railway cars. Supplies of Belarusian medications to the Turkmen market were also discussed.

Close attention was paid to cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. At present about 10,000 Turkmen boys and girls study in Belarus. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was satisfied with the training of the personnel, who will later on make up the national elite of Turkmenistan.

The Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus remarked that in December 2015 a large Belarusian delegation will take part in the festivities timed to the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and in an international conference to be held under the aegis of the United Nations Organization.

“We have no topics we don’t talk about, there are no issues that we’d rather not discuss in our relations,” stressed Mikhail Myasnikovich. In his opinion, the goals the Belarusian delegation had set out to reach have been achieved.
