Belarus to take part in Rosatom projects worldwide

OSTROVETS, 9 October (BelTA) – Belarusian specialists will be invited to participate in the projects to build nuclear power plants of the Rosatom State Corporation throughout the world, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he spoke to the personnel of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, which is under construction in Ostrovets, on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of state, the agreement was reached at the meeting with Rosatom Director General Sergei Kiriyenko. “Our people are needed here today. The Rosatom head promised that they will be in demand worldwide,” Alexander Lukashenko noted. Rosatom has valid contracts to build the nuclear power plants like in Belarus in 12 more countries. The President stressed that other countries show interest in the BelNPP construction, “and our people may join other similar projects.”

The head of state answered the questions from the meeting participants, including possible preferences in employment for family members of the foreign workers who came in Belarus to build the nuclear power plant. Alexander Lukashenko stressed that these people are “no loner foreigners.” He promised that if foreign specialists working at the plant make proposals on this issue "we will take decisions on all of them.”

The meeting participants also asked the President about the development of the Ostrovets district infrastructure in connection with the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, especially sports facilities. The head of state assured that such facilities will be built. "We cannot do without sports and recreational facilities here," Alexander Lukashenko said noting that Ostrovets expects an influx of young people in connection with the construction of the nuclear power plant.
