MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – Belarus will send a full package of documents regarding the compensation for polluted oil to Russia in February, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Lyashenko on 5 February.

Igor Lyashenko reminded that in January he met with Dmitry Kozak, who was a deputy prime minister in the Russian government at the time. The sides discussed the procedure and the format for submitting the application for the compensation. “The Belarusian side is preparing the documents and will hand them over within the framework of this format. I think the full package will be handed over to the Russian side in February and we will get an answer to our questions,” he said.

In late January the Russian side expressed readiness to compensate the damage poor-quality Russian oil caused to Belarusian partners in 2019.

BelTA reported earlier that on 19 April 2019 the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim registered a massive decrease in the quality of the Russian oil mixture Urals coming via the oil pipeline system Druzhba. The concentration of chlororganic compounds in oil exceeded standard thresholds dozens of times over. A number of countries stopped taking and processing Russian oil as a result. Both Belarusian oil refineries – OAO Naftan and Mozyr Oil Refinery – were forced to reduce their workload and suffered financial losses. Damage was also caused to the pipeline system.
