MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Tanzania have mapped out a course to mechanize agriculture and expand food supplies, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA after negotiations between Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of Tanzania Gerald Geofrey Mweli.

The parties noted that despite the recent launch of the bilateral dialogue, which was consolidated by an interagency memorandum, the cooperation potential is far from being fully utilized. Last year bilateral trade was driven by shipments of Belarusian vegetable oils and meat and bone meal as well as Tanzanian coffee, flowers, and oilseeds. Now it will be necessary to expand interaction across the board.

“You have seen the entire spectrum of Belarusian opportunities with your own eyes: from a wide food basket to sophisticated agricultural machinery. We are ready to supply poultry meat, dairy products, and veterinary drugs as well as to share competences, including in training personnel in our specialized higher education institutions,” Yuri Gorlov noted.

Tanzania has a vast amount of fertile land, but a significant part of it is not cultivated due to a shortage of machines and vehicles. To solve this problem, the African partners are considering setting up a network of motor pools to support local farmers. The Tanzanian side named an integrated approach, which includes not only the sale of equipment but also its subsequent maintenance, as an undeniable advantage of the Belarusian cooperation model.

“We have been impressed by the technologies and their practical applicability in our conditions. We especially appreciate that Belarus guarantees aftersales service for machines and vehicles. We are ready to organize visits of business missions to your enterprises and promote academic exchanges of specialists to transfer best practices,” Gerald Geofrey Mweli emphasized.

The delegation of the African country, which includes parliamentarians, heads of line government agencies, and business circles, is on an official visit to Minsk and is taking part in the Belagro 2026 expo.
