Belarus, Serbia show interest in wider business cooperation

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Serbia are interested in expanding business activity, Serbia Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic told media ahead of the meeting of the Business Council for Cooperation between the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce on 29 March, BelTA has learned.

“We are interested in expanding business activity. There are companies from Belarus that show interest in purchasing products of Serbian companies. There are Belarusian companies that sell their goods to Serbia. There are also joint ventures that operate in Serbia. A joint company making gas-engine buses can be cited as an example,” noted Zeljko Sertic.

In his words, there are plans to develop not only cooperation and commercial relations but also the services sector. “We have a developed IT sector that cooperates with international companies. In this area we have opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. We will do our best to intensify mutually beneficial cooperation,” the minister assured.

According to him, the relations between the two countries are at a relatively high level. “According to our data, the mutual trade totaled almost $100 million last year, which is still far from the full potential we have. Today’s forum is of great significance. The Serbian delegation consisting of more than 130 people testifies to this fact,” noted Zeljko Sertic. In his words, Belarus has welcomed heads of companies representing various sectors, including mechanical engineering, construction, agriculture, food, chemical industry, and pharmaceutics.

Zeljko Sertic said that ahead of the meeting of the Business Council he had a meeting with the Trade Minister and then at the Industry Ministry. “Tomorrow I am set to meet with the Prime Minister. We will talk about concrete forms of cooperation in order to improve and develop it,” the minister said.
