Belarus seeks more World Bank funds for forestry sector

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian Forestry Ministry is in talks with the World Bank, seeking extra funds for the country's forestry sector, Forestry Minister Mikhail Amelyanovich told a press conference on 13 September, BelTA has learned.

In 2015 the World Bank allocated a $40.7 loan for Belarus’ forestry sector. “About 67% of the loan has already been developed. By June 2018 the loan will be used to the full. We need some $14 million more to build three forest seed centers in Grodno, Gomel and Mogilev and also purchase small-scale operations equipment. We are currently in talks with the World Bank. This week a group of the World Bank specialists is in Belarus visiting a number of companies. They praised our efforts with the loan and are ready to consider our proposals,” said Mikhail Amelyanovich.

The World Bank meeting of founders is scheduled for February 2018. It is expected that the final decision on allocating additional funds to the Forestry Ministry of Belarus will be taken at the meeting.
