Belarus seeks barrier-free trade, economic cooperation with Russia

MOSCOW, 8 April (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in barrier-free trade and economic cooperation with Russia, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a press conference in Moscow on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian side is ready to settle any issues in this field as soon as they arise. “We are eager to cooperate with Russia in trade and economy without any restrictions and barriers to our goods,” Vladimir Makei stressed. At the same time, the trading partners must respect the rules in force in the neighboring country. “There must be order,” the minister pointed out.

Vladimir Makei believes that the task of diplomats is to create favorable conditions for the flow of products and settle disputes that arise from time to time between different government agencies. “We have always been ready for constructive dialogue with our Russian partners,” the minister said. He emphasized that the Belarusian side does not approve when a problem appears in the media before it is discussed at the negotiating table. “This is not the kind of approach that friendly nations should resort to,” Vladimir Makei pointed out.

Despite the decline in the Belarusian-Russian trade, the countries have great potential for cooperation in this field. “We would like to ensure that Belarusian and Russian companies enjoy equal opportunities on the markets of both countries, without any restrictions to the flow of goods between nations. We are ready for such cooperation,” the minister said. Vladimir Makei noted that both Belarus and Russia are in favor of constructive cooperation. He expressed confidence that Belarus and Russia will successfully overcome common financial and economic woes.
