Belarus, Myanmar in active talks on meat, butter and rapeseed oil supplies

MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) - Belarus and Myanmar intend to develop cooperation in the agro-industrial sector. The matter was discussed during a working meeting between Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister - Director of the Veterinary and Food Supervision Department Ivan Smilgin and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar Dr. Ye Tun Win, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

The delegation from Myanmar is in Belarus to study advanced technologies and establish direct contacts. According to the ministry’s press service, trade between the countries is showing confident growth: in the seven months of 2026 it increased 2.3-fold compared with the same period last year. In the first half of the year, 800 tonnes of dry dairy products and 500 tonnes of whey were supplied to Myanmar. Belarus purchases rice in Myanmar and is negotiating supplies of seafood.

An active dialogue is under way on supplies of butter, meat products, pasta and rapeseed oil. “Belarus is capable of making a significant contribution to ensuring Myanmar’s food security by supplying high-quality goods at affordable prices. We are also ready to assist in the design and equipping of dairy farms with modern equipment,” Ivan Smilgin said.

The parties also discussed educational interaction. Myanmar colleagues received information about the possibilities for training and retraining agricultural specialists at Belarusian universities, including internship programs.

The ministry also reported that the Myanmar delegation plans to visit a number of key agro-industrial facilities. The country’s government is striving for full food self-sufficiency and regards Belarus as a reliable partner. “We are particularly interested in Belarusian technologies in livestock farming, milk processing and agriculture. Given the difficult geographical features of our country, Belarus’ experience in rational fertilizer application and agricultural engineering is of enormous value to us,” Ye Tun Win emphasized.
