Belarus invites Poland to help supply nuclear power plant’s electricity to EU
MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Belarus invites Poland to work together in supplying the electricity the future nuclear power plant will generate into the European Union. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the statement as he met with Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Finance of Poland, on 24 October, BelTA has learned.
Andrei Kobyakov said: “Belarus intends to commission the first power-generating unit of the nuclear power plant in Ostrovets in 2018. I think we could very well work together in supplying electricity from Belarus to the European Union. Poland could use this electricity or could transit it further into the European Union. The idea was looked at in the past and I think it has good prospects.”
Cooperation in power engineering can become a promising avenue of interaction between Belarus and Poland, noted Andrei Kobyakov.
Belarus expects invigoration and serious advancement of mutual relations with Poland. The countries have stepped up the bilateral dialogue this year. Interagency cooperation was given a new impulse, primarily cooperation between the ministries of agriculture, natural resources and environmental protection, and between the administrations of bordering regions. The Belarusian government expects mutually beneficial partnership with Poland to further advance. The Belarusian government suggests determining growth points with a view to raising the trade turnover. “We would like our work to result in new growth points that would contribute to raising our trade turnover,” concluded the Prime Minister of Belarus.
