Belarus interested in World Bank experience of government procurement system development

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in the experience of the World Bank concerning the development of the government procurement system due to the intention to improve the relevant Belarusian laws. Deputy Chairman of the State Control Committee of Belarus Vasily Gerasimov made the statement as he met with World Bank representatives in Minsk on 25 October, BelTA has learned.

The press service of the State Control Committee quoted Vasily Gerasimov as saying: “The principles the work is done in Belarus are similar to the approaches and practices of the World Bank – openness and accessibility to the procedures for all participants. A new information and analysis system to manage government procurement is being developed to make the system more transparent and competitive.”

World Bank Country Manager for Belarus Alex Kremer expressed readiness to share the experience and the best practices of the World Bank in this field. In his words, by discussing such matters it is possible to mutually adjust views on effective and rational spending in the course of project implementation.

A group of World Bank specialists is in Belarus on a visit on 24-26 October. The main purpose of the visit is to get familiar with the practice and problems in the sphere of government procurement. The meeting held on 25 October primarily focused on innovations and practical procedural aspects of projects financed by the World Bank.
