Belarus’ grain harvest reaches 7m tonnes

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – Seven million tonnes of grain has been threshed in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 18 August, some 7,213,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, were cropped in Belarus. The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast harvested 1.751 million tonnes, Brest Oblast - 1,608 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast- 1.457 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast- 913,000 tonnes, Gomel Oblast- 864,000 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 620,000 tonnes.

Belarus has harvested 76% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops (maize not taken into account), which makes up 1,523,000 hectares.
Average grain yield is 8.5 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

Some 376,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 54% of the target, along with 95,000 tonnes of rapeseed oilseeds, fulfilling 99% of the plan.

Winter rapeseed for grain has been sown across 219,000 hectares, representing 50% of the planned area.

Flax has been pulled from 38,000 hectares, accounting for 78% of the planned area.

Some 360,000 tonnes of hay (50% of the plan) and 11.861 million tonnes of haylage (85% of the plan) have been prepared so far, including 386,000 tonnes stored in polymer packaging.

Forage production has reached 3.613 million tonnes (36% of target).
