Belarus-Georgia cooperation in Silk Road initiative discussed

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Georgia considered the possibilities of cooperation in connection with the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative, Georgia Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili told media following a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Andrei Kobyakov, BelTA has learned.

“We considered the Silk Road initiative. In this regard, we have identified ways to ensure more active participation of Georgia and Belarus in this process. We also considered other important issues, such as how to use the favorable location of our countries in the transport corridors,” Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation in economy and trade, investment and agriculture. “We stressed the importance of carrying out mutual visits at the highest level, the development of the legal frameworks, and deepening cooperation in culture and tourism," he said.

“We expressed full readiness to continue close cooperation in international organizations. Our countries have great potential to further expand economic ties. To facilitate this process we have established the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. The next meeting is due this year,” Giorgi Kvirikashvili informed.

He noted that the Georgians and Belarusians have a lot in common. “We are happy to see your capabilities and willingness to further the cooperation. And, most importantly, there are no obstacles to the development of relations between our countries. Georgia has always been a reliable partner for Belarus and will remain so,” the Georgian Prime Minister stressed.
