Belarus, France bolster interregional ties

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) - Belarus and France have intensified cooperation at the interregional level, Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France Pavel Latushko told media, BelTA has learned.

“We see that the contacts between the two countries have intensified at the interregional level. Two weeks ago the city of Tourcoing hosted a Minsk delegation led by the head of Partizansky District administration of the capital city and the Deputy Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee. The nearest plans include the signing of an agreement on cooperation between Minsk Oblast and the Normandy Region of France, the cities of Vitebsk and Bethune,” Ambassador Pavel Latushko noted.

According to him, cooperation has been increasingly vibrant between the Belarusian Brest and Brest in France, between Gomel and Clermont-Ferrand. “It is very important that the regions are beginning to understand the importance of such contacts,” the Ambassador noted.

The development of interregional cooperation between the two countries will be one of the themes of the second session of the joint Belarusian-French commission for economic cooperation which is scheduled for 26 May.

Speaking about the plans for cooperation in culture, Ambassador Pavel Latushko informed that the negotiations are underway with the National Museum of the Marc Chagall in Nice on the organization of an exposition of the great artist in Minsk in 2017. It is expected that it will be timed to coincide with the 130th anniversary of the birth of the famous artist.
