Belarus, Finland to step up economic cooperation

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Finland are determined to add momentum to the bilateral trade and economic cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“On Thursday, 13 April, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkanen paid a visit to Belarus. The first visit of the kind in the history of the relations of the two countries was prepared on the initiative of the embassy,” said the ministry. The delegation included representatives of big Finnish companies Vartsila, Valmet, KPA Unicon, Kesko, and Idman/Safegate Group that work in the areas of the advanced innovation technologies on the energy market, in the production of agricultural equipment, safe air terminal operations, and building materials.

The Finnish minister held meetings with Belarus’ First Vice Premier Vasily Matyushevsky, Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko. The talks highlighted the ways of intensifying trade, economic and innovative cooperation between the two countries, and also the implementation of big investment energy projects in Belarus.

Finnish businessmen also visited the office of the Eurasian Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Belarus to discuss the financial aspects of the bilateral economic cooperation.
