Belarus’ exchange trade with Middle East up 29%

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) - Belarus has increased the volume of its exchange trade with Middle Eastern countries by 29%, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE).

According to BUCE, in January-August 2025, Belarus' exchange trade with Middle Eastern countries grew in value terms by 29%, reaching $56.4 million. This year, companies from seven countries in the region have conducted deals on the Belarusian exchange platform. These are Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Syria, and Türkiye. For comparison, last year there were only four such countries.

“Exchange trading mechanisms are used particularly actively by residents of the UAE, Türkiye, and Lebanon. These countries account for more than half of the total volume of exchange trade with the Middle East region. Furthermore, the value of transactions shows positive dynamics for almost all countries. For example, exchange trade with the UAE for January-August increased by 45%, and with Türkiye by 9%. Only with Lebanon have sales figures so far remained at the same level. However, given the demand for domestic timber, we expect to see growth in this market by the end of the year as well,” the BUCE press service said.

The most popular Belarusian goods among Middle Eastern trading participants are dairy products, feed additives, and woodworking industry products. In particular, dry milk is supplied via BUCE to Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and the UAE, while timber is in high demand in Israel, Iraq, and Türkiye. Additionally, the sale of flax fiber commenced in 2025. This product is now regularly purchased on the exchange platform by companies from the UAE and Türkiye.

Regarding imports in 2025, producers of carded yarn from Türkiye regularly sold their products through BUCE, which allowed them to exceed the January-August 2024 result by 15 times. The buyers in this case were Belarusian textile industry enterprises.

Currently, 210 business entities from 12 Middle Eastern countries are accredited with BUCE, which is 23 more than at the start of the year. The leaders in the number of accredited companies are Türkiye, the UAE, Israel, Egypt, and Syria.

Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading session in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with export and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.
