Belarus-Ecuador commission on economic cooperation to meet in 2018

Photo courtesy of Belarus' Ministry of Foreign AffairsMINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Ecuador have agreed to hold a meeting of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation in H2 2018, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media after the talks with his Ecuadorian counterpart Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces on 18 May, BelTA informs.

“The bilateral trade and economic cooperation will be duly considered at the third meeting of the Belarus-Ecuador commission on trade and economic cooperation. We have agreed that the meeting will take pace in the second half of the year. Our Ecuadorian friends have promised to appoint their co-chair of the commission in the near future,” Vladimir Makei said.

In his words, over the 25 years of cooperation the country have developed interstate contacts at all the levels, expanded relations in the economic sector. However, the potential for bilateral cooperation in all the areas is still hugely untapped, the minister stressed.

According to Vladimir Makei, the talks focused on the priority issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including further development of political dialogue at all the levels. “The talks helped outline good prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, sci-tech, education, cultural and humanitarian sectors,” he said.

Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces added that the forthcoming meeting of the commission on trade and economic cooperation will be attended by businessmen of the two countries. This will help expand cooperation in the public and private sectors. She said that the trade between the two countries has increased, but there is still a bug potential for further development. “We are interested in making concrete steps forward. We have the interest from Belarus and agreed to promote our cooperation in industry, petrochemistry, possible assembling of vehicles and agriculture,” the minister said.
