MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Brazil-Belarus cooperation in agriculture holds a lot of promise, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil to Belarus Bernard Jorg Leopold de Garcia Klingl told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.
According to the ambassador, Brazil is very optimistic about cooperation prospects with Belarus, especially in the field of agriculture. It is of great importance for Brazil’s agricultural sector to be able to buy high-quality potash fertilizers at a competitive price. “In turn, Brazil supplied Embraer aircraft to Belavia, so we can say that Brazil and Belarus maintained an active dialogue. Of course, the sanctions have given rise to a number of challenges and problems, but we are taking all possible steps to overcome these difficulties, so that our trade remains vibrant. I discuss this matter with the government of Belarus,” Jorg Leopold de Garcia Klingl said.
“We are trying to convince the countries that have imposed the sanctions that the supply of potash fertilizers is of strategic importance for maintaining food security around the world and that people in all countries should have access to food. Accordingly, the supply of fertilizers should not be interrupted. We are trying to explain to the European Union and the United States the complexity and intricacy of this situation. Brazil is the world’s fourth largest producer of agricultural products,” the diplomat said.
Brazil believes that the president of Belarus can play a role in normalizing the situation in the region. “Brazil believes that dialogue is the only way to resolve these issues, thus a constructive solution should be sought. It is impossible to resolve the conflict without the parties directly involved, it is also difficult to find a solution without the involvement of other parties that are affected by this conflict. We believe that this is the only way to ease tensions and bring back peace and stability in the region and around the world. It is very important for the people of Ukraine, for neighboring countries, for all of Europe and it is in the interests of regional stability to end this conflict as soon as possible. This conflict has ramifications around the whole world, it hampers foreign trade, creates a situation of uncertainty,” Jorg Leopold de Garcia Klingl said.
He emphasized that the supply of potash fertilizers is also of great importance for many other countries, thus it is crucial to keep supply chains working in order to ensure food security. It is necessary to take inflation under control and prevent price rises. “Another important issue has to do with the payment for supplied products. The issue of logistics is no longer so acute, as products from Belarus can be transported through Russian ports,” the ambassador added.
