Alexander Medved

Alexander Medved, Belarusian sportsman and trainer (freestyle wrestling). Born in the town of Belaya Tserkov, Ukraine on September 16, 1937.

Merited Master of Sports (1963), Merited Sports Specialist of Belarus (1969). Merited Coach of Belarus (1976) and the USSR (1980), professor (1976). Olympic Champion (1964, 1968, 1972) and World Champion (1962, 1963, 1966, 1967, 1969–1971).

Since 1970 Belarus has been holding traditional international freestyle wrestling tournaments in his name (Grand Prix category).

Medved is the Winner of the special UNESCO prize for sports nobility. He is recognised as the best freestyle wrestler of the XX century.
