MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ top biathlete, three-time champion of the Winter Olympics in Sochi Darya Domracheva has been voted Europe’s best sportswoman by the European division of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

Darya Domracheva is the first Belarusian female athlete to win the vote that has taken place for 32 times already since 1983. In 1992 Belarusian gymnast Vitaly Shcherbo was voted the best male athlete.

German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been voted Europe’s best sportsman as part of the 2014 Edition of the European Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards.

Apart from AIPS Europe members of the Belarusian Association of Sports Press also voted for Darya Domracheva. The ceremony to present the prize to the Belarusian athlete is likely to take place in Minsk in autumn 2015, representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

Some time ago U.S. tennis star Serena Williams was voted Best Female Athlete of the Year 2014 by AIPS while Darya Domracheva came in second.
