MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko explained why he did not sign the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). “I did not sign the Customs Code because many things that were supposed to work are not working. Moreover, I gave an instruction to withdraw our major specialists from the customs bodies. I will not revisit the issue of the customs code and related things while the problems remain unresolved,” the President noted during the meeting with the members of the public, representatives of the Belarusian and foreign mass media on 3 February, BelTA informs
In his words, if the member states want to see Belarus in the integration associations, they should respect each other, support each other, and should not create additional obstacles. “Our trade in the EEU fell by 40% in 2015 and by additional 18% in 2016. It is not good. An almost 60% fall is bad. Our export to Kazakhstan is very small. You are aware what our relations with Russia currently are. Therefore, we need to find the ways to restore these relations. We are prepared for this,” the President emphasized.
