Belarus, Slovakia to sign memorandum of cooperation in nuclear safety

BRATISLAVA, 26 April (BelTA) - Belarus and Slovakia will sign a memorandum of cooperation in nuclear safety, Belarusian Ambassador to Slovakia Igor Leshchenya said in the run-up to the official visit of Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov to Slovakia on 27-28 April, BelTA has learned.

The memorandum for information exchange and cooperation in nuclear safety regulation will be signed between the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and the Slovak nuclear regulatory authority.

Igor Leshchenya also recalled that Slovakia has experience of working with VVER reactors. The Belarusian nuclear power plant will operate such reactors too.

In November 2016, during the official visit of Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico to Belarus, the heads of government of the two countries identified the priority areas for cooperation which were pharmaceuticals, energy, industry (including modernization of Belarusian enterprises). “Cooperation in the field of standardization will be given momentum during the visit of Andrei Kobyakov to Slovakia. Another important area is the cooperation in the field of science and technology. A relevant intergovernmental agreement will be signed,” Igor Leshchenya added.

According to the Ambassador, Belarus and Slovakia are building a constructive dialogue. “Belarusian-Slovak relations are characterized by the pursuit of dialogue and understanding. Belarus and Slovakia are really two very close people. At a political level, we strive not only to listen but also to hear each other. This is common for the ministerial consultations, and the inter-parliamentary dialogue,” he concluded
