Lukashenko signs decree to declare 2022 Year of Historical Memory

MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has signed a decree declaring 2022 Year of Historical Memory. The moment of signing the document was shown on TV as part of the broadcast of the Belarusian leader’s New Year address on 31 December, BelTA has learned.

The president signed the document in his office at the Palace of Independence. The content of the decree was also captured on camera. It states that the Year of Historical Memory is declared with a view to forming an objective public attitude towards the historical past, preserving and strengthening the unity of the Belarusian people.

The Council of Ministers with the participation of the Prosecutor General's Office, the National Academy of Sciences, regional executive committees and Minsk City Hall have been instructed to develop and approve the national action plan on Year of Historical Memory in 2022. It has also been instructed to coordinate the activities of government agencies and other organizations to implement the plan.

The decree comes into force after its official publication.
