MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Georgia is always welcome in the CIS, Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych told a press conference following the session of the CIS Council of Heads of State on 25 October, BelTA has learnt.
“I totally agree and welcome the suggestion of Alexander Lukashenko to remind our friends from Georgia that the door of the CIS is always open for them. This will probably be absolutely right, because we often hear from Georgian politicians that it was a hasty decision (to leave the CIS – BelTA’s note) and now Georgia is not involved in the efforts to combat the global economic crisis,” Viktor Yanukovych said.
“After all, the CIS is a place to find common ground and resolve many issues. I believe that if our counterparts want it (to re-join the CIS – BelTA’s note), it is never too late to do it,” the Ukrainian President said.
As was informed earlier, Ukraine will assume the CIS presidency in 2014.
