Tozik: Belarusians showed world-class competency at WorldSkills International

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Students of Belarusian vocational schools performed extremely well at the WorldSkills International contest, Vice Premier of Belarus Anatoly Tozik told BelTA. Anatoly Tozik attended the national final of WorldSkills International that took place in Minsk on 20-22 May.

Belarusian students won gold and silver medals in over 20 nominations.

All in all, over 150 students took part in the competition in Minsk. The participants demonstrated their knowledge of modern machines, innovative technologies, and great competences in their field of work.

The participants competed in the following nominations at WorldSkills Belarus: Electronics, CAD Engineering, Confectionery, Woodworking, Public Catering, Robotics Technology, Hairdressing, Automobile Technology, Cable Networks, Cooking Skills, Clothing Design, Welding, Refrigerating Equipment, and many more.

The partners of the competition were 25 companies and organizations, including Integral, Kamvol, Henkel Bautechnik, country offices of Volkswagen, Bosсh, Festo, Cisco, etc. They presented their most advanced equipment and materials for competitors to perform the tasks.

The jury consisted of over 60 experts representing the entire spectrum of the domestic economy and the education system.

The WorldSkills International (WSI) unites 66 countries, including Germany, Sweden, China, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. The first competition took place in Madrid in 1950. Belarus joined this not-for-profit organization a year ago. Sao Paulo, Brazil, will host the next competition in 2015. WSI's mission is to promote, through the cooperative actions of members, a world-wide awareness of the essential contribution that skills and high standards of competence make to the achievement of economic success and individual achievement. Anatoly Tozik emphasized: “We are set to show our best in Brazil. Our guys will demonstrate that one needs to have brains, a big heart and golden hands to be a good worker”.
